Renewable Energy Systems - Prüfungsnummer 9958452

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to modern renewable and conventional energy systems and their role in the transition towards a sustainable future. The lecture is jointly taught by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gonzalez-Salazar with a focus and electrical energy systems and Prof. Dr. Schicktanz with a focus on thermal energy systems.

The course covers the fundamental technologies and concepts of renewable and conventional energy conversion, storage, and utilization. On the electrical side, topics include photovoltaic systems, wind energy, hydropower, nuclear, biomass-, gas- and coal-fired power plants as well as electrical energy storage technologies. The thermal part addresses solar thermal, heat pumps and refrigeration systems, absorption chillers, and ventilation systems as key components of sustainable heating and cooling solutions. Particular emphasis is placed on sector coupling, which links electrical and thermal energy systems and enables integrated approaches to future energy supply.

In addition to the technical foundations and system design aspects, the course also examines economic considerations and the regulatory framework governing renewable energy technologies and their deployment. By combining engineering, economic, and policy perspectives, students gain a holistic understanding of modern energy systems including renewable and conventional technologies and their role in future energy infrastructures.
