Introduction to key concepts of the English legal system - Prüfungsnummer: 9958435

Anglo-Saxon law is built on concepts that in some ways are fundamentally different

from the Roman Law systems of continental Europe. The principle of binding precedent and the rules of equity have created a whole body of Common Law which stands alongside statutory legislation and operates in very interesting ways. In this course we will study some of the key ideas, and we will read excerpts from actual legal judgements in which these ideas are set to work. The course is intended for students who have no prior knowledge of law, and it will highlight real human stories that the courts have to deal with.

The course will be taught through the medium of English, so reading comprehension at the level C1 is a recommended prerequisite. While the course will give participants the opportunity to polish their English skills, it is not a language course, and the exam will be graded solely on content.
