This English-taught online course aims to provide students with an understanding of the origins and basic principles of the German Governmental System and the foundations of the German Legal System. The course covers the German Constitution, selected constitutional principles, basic rights, and the judicial review and court system. It also introduces the basic principles of the German legal system and then dives deeper into key areas such as private law, criminal law, and administrative law. As an outcome of this course, students will be able to analyze the governmental structure of the Federal Republic of Germany and the foundations of the German legal system and compare them with other governmental structures and legal systems.
